Stuc A Chroin – 2nd May 2009 The second round of the 2009 British Championship was a crucial race in the new format series. Comprising 4 races, with 2 short, 1 medium and 1 long, a runners best 3 races will count. However, with 1 race from each distance compulsory, any athlete missing either the long or medium race cannot hope to figure in the championship. A surprise, therefore, to see such luminaries as Ian Holmes, Simon Bailey and Rob Jebb absent. Bar these 3, the field was as classy as could be expected. Victory fell to orienteering international Jon Duncan, who led pretty much all the way, although tracked closely by reigning champion Rob Hope, and Borrowdale's Morgan Donnelly. A lurking Tom Owens chased the leaders down and over the final 2 miles of hard forest track closed to within 2 seconds of Jon Duncan, who held out for victory. Morgan claimed an excellent 4th place. The emerging talent that is Chris Steele claimed 7th place, notable scalps including club mate, and 1 st MV40 finisher, Jim Davies. Mark Roberts 15th and Andrew Schofield's 21st were not enough to see the Club victors in the Team trophy, that crown taken by Pudsey & Bramley. However, the Club did secure the 1st MV40 crown. In the Ladies race, Angela Mudge was a clear winner, finishing in 41st place overall. Borrowdales Nicola Davies secured victory in the LV50 catgory. Results:
